Women’s History Month
Is it any coincidence that March is Women’s History Month and Social Work Month? Throughout the month of March, we are celebrating women’s leadership in building a community where every woman feels safe in her home and relationships. Women have been the driving force of SHALVA from the beginning. When thirteen Orthodox Jewish women heard a rabbi’s wife from Baltimore speak about domestic abuse in Jewish homes in 1985, they were determined to find out if domestic abuse was happening in their tight-knit community too. When they discovered that it was occurring and that no one was talking about it, they founded SHALVA.
Social Work Month
Social work is the important profession of SHALVA’s talented clinical team. Our master’s level social workers all have certification in trauma and domestic abuse counseling. They work tirelessly to support our clients on their journeys to healing.
Honoring Survivors of Domestic Abuse
Most importantly, we take this moment to honor the women who have bravely come to SHALVA seeking safety and support. These women are survivors: strong, resilient, and working toward a better future for themselves and their families. It is an honor to do this work together.
