The Stories We Tell: Domestic Violence in Entertainment and News Media Culture

Join an insightful conversation about the entertainment and news media that we consume and how it influences our views on relationships, roles, and violence. Experts Jackson Katz, PhD, and CarolAnn Peterson, PhD, will discuss the stories that perpetuate myths and misconceptions and normalize domestic violence.

Jackson Katz

Jackson Katz, PhD, is a major figure and thought leader in the global movement of men working
to promote gender equality and prevent gender violence. He has lectured and trained extensively
all over the world. Dr. Katz is a co-founder of Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), one of the longest-running and influential gender violence prevention programs. His books include the bestseller The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help and he has created award-winning educational
videos. Dr. Katz’s TEDx talk, Violence Against Women Is a Men’s Issue, has been translated  into 27 languages.

CarolAnn Peterson, PhD

CarolAnn Peterson, PhD, is an international public speaker and has been interviewed by major news organizations regarding domestic violence cases. She is a consultant to attorneys regarding strategy for domestic violence cases and an expert witness regarding domestic violence and strangulation. She has also provided training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. As a full-time lecturer at the University of Southern California, Dr. Peterson created the domestic abuse course for the School of Social Work and taught  numerous related courses. She is also a survivor of domestic violence.
