Journey to Healing: Obstacles on the Path to Freedom

June 23, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CDT

Stephanie Land escaped an abusive relationship with her young daughter. Living in a homeless shelter, Land cleaned houses for money as a single mother. Her work thrust her into the private lives of her clients and how the other half lives. She began journaling about everything she witnessed, which turned into a small piece, then a viral essay, and eventually, a bestselling memoir. Her book was adapted for the Netflix miniseries Maid. Land will share her journey of survival and healing and the challenges she faced once she left her abuser.

The path to safety and freedom is difficult and long for survivors of domestic abuse, full of twists and turns. At SHALVA, we join them on their journeys to offer guidance and supportive services for any challenges, unfairness, and isolation they encounter.
